Christmas eve

We had a wonderful Christmas eve this year - It was really nice because we got to spend it at home with just us.
We went to our Christmas eve service at church, then came home for some potato soup - a Christmas eve tradition in my house growing up. Esther also helped me make a birthday cake - for Jesus' birthday, that we had for dessert.
After supper and birthday cake, Esther and Luke each got to open a present from under the tree and our neighbors brought over presents too. It was nice just to sit at home and let them play with their new presents. Luke got a whole pack of cars (which he kept trying to carry all at once - even putting one in his mouth.)

Esther got a 24 piece puzzle, which she put together twice before the night was over, and now she can do it completely on her own .

Esther also loved her princess slippers

Christmas eve night we also finished the Jesse tree - here's Esther listening to Daddy read the scripture passage for December 25th.

I put the kids to bed at 7:45 (a little early to give daddy some extra time to put together Luke's train table together). Here he is near the beginning of the process.

almost done - the most time consuming part was putting the track and trains together after he got the table together.
This was our first "stay up Christmas eve and put presents together", and it wasn't too bad (well, I say that, but I wasn't the one who had to put the train table together). We were very excited to see the children's faces the next morning!

The one time Dad and I stayed up putting things together was the year in Omaha you girls got the doll bunk beds and the baby carriages. There were a number of things that needed assembly and we were having company for Christmas dinner the next day. So we remember those kinds of Christmas Eve's! Well done!
